IL HB1024

Amends the Firearm Owners Identification Card Act to prohibit counties, including home rule counties, from regulating firearms or imposing restrictions greater than those in state law.

Voids all existing county ordinances and resolutions that impose restrictions on the ownership, possession, acquisition, transportation, carrying, or transfer of firearms, firearm attachments, ammunition, and related components enacted on or after the effective date.

Preserves existing municipal ordinances that impose greater restrictions on firearm acquisition, possession, and transfer than state law requires.

Designates the preemption of county firearm regulations as a limitation on home rule powers under the Illinois Constitution.

Takes effect immediately upon becoming law.
