IL HB1268

Adds Section 14C-13.5 to the School Code governing English Language Learner (ELL) programs and teacher training requirements.

Allows school districts to require teachers of ELL students (who teach ELL courses but lack ELL certification) to complete a one-day training session on challenges faced by English Language Learner students.

Permits the one-day training to satisfy State Board of Education-mandated contact hour requirements for such teachers, providing an alternative to other required training hours.

Applies to implementation of recommendations from the Advisory Council on Bilingual Education.

Effective immediately upon becoming law.
