HB1506 Summary

• Amends the Recreational Use of Land and Water Areas Act to allow not-for-profit 501(c)(3) organizations to register land with the Department of Natural Resources to qualify for limited liability protection.

• Establishes a Department of Natural Resources registration page to collect owner name, address, IRS tax identification number, property size, address, property identification number (PIN), and county location from registering organizations.

• Expands the definition of "recreational or conservation purpose" to include entry by the general public onto registered 501(c)(3) land for conservation, resource management, education, or outdoor recreational activities.

• Property is deemed registered upon submission of information to the Department, and registration remains valid until the owner requests removal or no longer possesses the property.

• Changes apply only to causes of action accruing on or after January 1, 2014, with the Act taking effect immediately upon passage.
