IL HB1526

Adds Section 14.1 to the Firearm Owners Identification Card Act establishing a defense to criminal liability for expired FOID card holders who have submitted renewal applications to the Department of State Police.

Provides immunity from prosecution for offenses where the sole element is not having a currently valid FOID card if the cardholder is not ineligible under the Act and has not received the renewed card within 30 days as prescribed.

Explicitly prohibits using an expired FOID card to purchase or receive new firearms or ammunition that the person does not already possess.

Takes effect immediately upon becoming law.
