IL HB2224

Amends the Public Safety Employee Benefits Act to define "catastrophic injury" as a grievous or serious injury that permanently prevents an employee from performing any gainful work.

Requires employers to pay entire health insurance premiums for law enforcement officers, correctional officers, firefighters, and their spouses and dependent children (up to age 25 if dependent or student) who suffer catastrophic injuries or are killed in the line of duty.

Permits employers to require injured employees to submit to examination by up to 3 licensed physicians at the employer's expense to determine eligibility for benefits.

Makes the employer's corporate authorities or designated person the final decision-maker on catastrophic injury determinations, subject to judicial review under the Administrative Review Law, with the employer deemed a necessary party to any legal challenge.

Establishes that making false or fraudulent statements to obtain benefits is a Class A misdemeanor, with violators forfeiting benefits and owing reimbursement of all benefits paid.
