• Amends the Fire Protection District Act to allow township boards of trustees to assume governance of fire protection districts meeting specific criteria.

• Applies only to districts in counties with population between 900,000 and 1,000,000 (per 2010 census) that are currently governed by 3-member appointed boards and serve unincorporated township areas through contracts with surrounding fire departments.

• Township board members serving as fire protection district commissioners receive no additional compensation for that service.

• Previously appointed fire protection district commissioners remain in office until the most recently appointed board member's term expires, after which the township board assumes full governance.

• Takes effect immediately upon becoming law.
