HB2600 Summary

• Expands eligibility for alternative retirement annuity under the State Employees Article to any person employed by a state agency or Office of Secretary of State with investigative, law enforcement, or peace officer duties that render them ineligible for Social Security coverage (not limited to state police, firefighters, and corrections/juvenile justice security employees).

• Requires the alternative retirement annuity (Section 14-110 benefits) for eligible employees with 20+ years of service credit who have attained age 60, allowing retirement at age 60 rather than the standard age 67.

• Applies only to employees hired on or after January 1, 2011 as part of the new hire provisions under Section 1-160 of the Illinois Pension Code.

• Amends the State Mandates Act to exempt this legislation from requiring state reimbursement to local entities for implementation costs.
