IL HB2681

Requires all pupils in grades 9-12 entering 9th grade in the 2013-2014 school year or later to complete a minimum of 40 hours of community service as a prerequisite for receiving a high school diploma.

Mandates that school boards establish rules and procedures to implement the community service requirement.

Excludes community service performed under the mandatory requirement from counting toward optional volunteer service credit programs that school districts may establish.

Specifies that paid service, disciplinary work assignments, and service performed for course credit do not qualify under volunteer service credit programs.

Takes effect immediately upon becoming law.
