Beginning July 1, 2007, all gasoline-powered vehicles purchased with State funds must be flexible fuel vehicles (E-85 capable) or fuel-efficient hybrid vehicles that achieve at least 20% better fuel economy than conventional models.

Starting January 1, 2016, 25% of State-purchased vehicles (excluding Department of Corrections and State Police patrol vehicles) must be powered by electricity, compressed natural gas, liquid petroleum gas, or liquid natural gas.

The Department of Transportation must provide at least one electric vehicle charging station at each Interstate highway rest area by January 1, 2016, where electrical service permits and federal regulations allow.

The Illinois Toll Highway Authority must construct and maintain at least one electric vehicle charging station at service facilities (fuel stations, garages, stores, restaurants) by January 1, 2016, and may charge user fees to offset costs.

All diesel vehicles purchased with State funds must be certified to run on 5% biodiesel (B5) fuel, and the Chief Procurement Officer may exempt certain vehicles based on intended use or health and safety considerations.
