IL HB2700

Amends the Firearm Owners Identification Card Act by revising Section 13.1 to prohibit local governments and home rule units from requiring permits or licenses for firearm ownership or possession beyond the state Firearm Owner's Identification Card.

Declares firearm regulation an exclusive power of the State of Illinois and prohibits home rule units from regulating firearm ownership or possession.

Establishes this provision as a denial and limitation of home rule powers under Article VII, Section 6(h) of the Illinois Constitution.

Removes previous language that allowed municipalities to maintain existing ordinances with greater restrictions on firearm acquisition, possession, and transfer than state law.

Takes effect immediately upon becoming law.
