Courts and law enforcement agencies must report to school principals when students are detained for juvenile court proceedings, criminal offenses, or violations of municipal/county ordinances, including illegal gang activity.

Reports to principals must include the basis for detention, circumstances surrounding the events, and status of proceedings, with updates as developments occur.

Information from law enforcement reports must be kept separate from official school records and is not public record, used only by school officials with legitimate educational or safety interests.

School boards must ensure principals and assistant principals are evaluated on their instructional leadership ability and ability to maintain a positive education and learning climate.
