IL HB2837

Amends the Illinois School Code to require all reports from education-related advisory groups, boards, committees, councils, task forces, and working groups to be submitted to the Illinois P-20 Council in addition to the General Assembly, Governor, State Board of Education, and Board of Higher Education.

Establishes the Illinois P-20 Council as a statewide coordinating body with members including the Governor (as chairperson), four General Assembly members, six at-large members appointed by the Governor, five members from business organizations, six from professional education organizations, and representatives from community colleges, universities, and various education agencies.

Designates the Council with duties to coordinate pre-kindergarten through graduate school education, align high school curriculum with postsecondary expectations, improve graduation rates, reduce remediation needs, and advise state leadership on lifelong learning policies.

Authorizes the Council chairperson to establish working groups focusing on teacher preparation and certification, early childhood education, college and workforce readiness, research data and accountability, and community schools.

Takes effect immediately upon becoming law.
