HB2902 Summary

• Prohibits Illinois public officers, public employees, and firearm dealers from enforcing federal laws relating to firearms, firearm accessories, or ammunition owned or manufactured in Illinois and remaining exclusively within state borders.

• Makes it a Class 4 felony (1-3 years imprisonment, up to $5,000 fine, or both) for any federal official, agent, or employee to enforce federal firearm laws against firearms, accessories, or ammunition owned or manufactured in Illinois and retained within the state.

• Authorizes the Illinois Attorney General to defend Illinois citizens prosecuted by the federal government for violations of federal firearm laws relating to items owned or manufactured and kept exclusively within Illinois.

• Declares unenforceable within Illinois any federal law, rule, regulation, or order created on or after January 1, 2014 that bans or restricts semi-automatic firearms or magazines, or requires firearm registration.

• Takes effect immediately upon becoming law.
