IL HB2942

Creates new offense of making a false statement to a peace officer or criminal investigative officer under 720 ILCS 5/31-4.6 of the Criminal Code of 2012.

Requires the person to knowingly make a false statement to a state or local peace officer or criminal investigative officer regarding a criminal matter under investigation by that officer.

Requires a prosecutor working with the officer to first inform the person during the interview that making a knowing false statement to the officer would constitute a criminal offense.

Classifies the offense as a Class 4 felony.
