Adds authorization for school boards to excuse pupils with individualized education programs (IEPs) from physical education courses if the pupil is participating in an adaptive athletic program outside the school setting and documents such participation

Maintains existing exemptions for grades 11-12 students participating in interscholastic athletics, required academic classes for college admission or high school graduation, marching band programs, and ROTC programs

Allows exemption for special education students in grades 3-12 only if the student's parent/guardian agrees or the IEP team determines the time must be used for special education support services instead

Requires school boards that exercise exemption authority to establish individual policies for excusing students on a case-by-case basis

Effective date: July 1, 2013
