HB3065 Summary

• Increases mathematics requirement from 3 years to 4 years for students entering 9th grade in 2014-2015 school year and thereafter.

• Allows math-intensive courses outside traditional mathematics to count toward the 4-year math requirement, with ability to count toward other graduation requirements when applicable.

• Increases science requirement from 2 years to 3 years, with one year required to be a laboratory science.

• Removes previous requirements that one math course must be Algebra I and another must include geometry content.

• Applies to students entering 9th grade in 2014-2015 and subsequent school years; does not apply to students with disabilities whose course of study is determined by an individualized education program.
