IL HB3082

Amends the Department of State Police Law to expand public access to the Statewide Organized Criminal Gang Database (SWORD).

Allows the Department of State Police to make SWORD information electronically available to prosecutors, law enforcement agencies, and the general public (previously limited to prosecutors and law enforcement only).

SWORD database tracks organized criminal gangs and their memberships, including information such as names, addresses, birth dates, physical descriptions, tattoos, and gang affiliations.

Department may develop an automated data exchange system in consultation with the Criminal Justice Information Authority to compile and maintain the database information.
