HB3158 Summary - Fairness in Transportation Taxation Act

• Amends the Regional Transportation Authority Act to allow municipalities that are not served or underserved by RTA to sequester all taxes collected within their corporate boundaries.

• Sequestered taxes are held in trust by the Illinois Department of Revenue and paid to the RTA only as the municipality directs by resolution.

• Applies to all taxes collected under RTA authority, including motor fuel taxes, parking taxes, retailers' occupation taxes, service occupation taxes, use taxes, and automobile rental taxes.

• Takes effect immediately upon becoming law.
