Increases minimum sentences for unlawful use or possession of weapons by felons from 2-3 years to 4-5 years for first offenses, and enhances penalties for second or subsequent violations.

Enhances penalties for aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, including increasing minimum sentences from 3 years to 5 years for second or subsequent offenses.

Increases minimum sentence for unlawful possession of a firearm by a street gang member from 3 years to 4 years.

Limits sentence credits to a maximum of 4.5 days per month for prisoners serving sentences for firearm-related offenses including violations of Sections 24-1.1, 24-1.2, 24-1.7, 24-1.8, and 24-5 of the Criminal Code.

Takes effect immediately upon becoming law.
