IL HB3275

Amends 735 ILCS 5/2-203 to revise procedures for service of summons upon individual defendants in civil cases.

Establishes four approved methods of service: (1) handing summons directly to the person, (2) leaving it at their office with someone in charge or at their dwelling/usual place of abode with someone of suitable age and discretion, (3) mailing to their last known address with service complete upon mailing, or (4) leaving with the court clerk if no address is known.

Requires service to be made on a defendant's attorney if the defendant is represented by counsel, unless the court orders otherwise.

Preserves existing requirements for service officers to identify the defendant by sex, race, and approximate age, and to document the exact location, date, and time of service.

Takes effect immediately upon becoming law.
