Adjutant General serves as both Director of the Department of Military Affairs and Commander of the Illinois National Guard.

Department of Military Affairs authorized to make grants from the Illinois Military Family Relief Fund to members of Illinois National Guard and U.S. Armed Forces reserves called to active duty by presidential or congressional emergency declaration.

Casualty-based grants available to service members injured by terrorist activity, combat, or hostile action, with minimum award of $5,000 per recipient and eligibility extended to active duty members of U.S. Armed Forces.

Illinois National Guard members called to State Active Duty for 30 or more consecutive days and families of eligible service members may receive grants from the relief fund.

State Treasurer authorized to accept gifts, grants, and donations from public and private sources for deposit into the Illinois Military Family Relief Fund, with up to 5% of casualty-based grant appropriations available for program administration.
