IL HB4741

Amends the Fire Protection District Act to add a military service exemption to the age 35 requirement for firefighter applicants, allowing those who turned 35 while serving in the Armed Forces or National Guard with honorable discharge to apply if currently under age 40.

Allows fire protection districts to elect to follow alternative provisions in Section 16.06c instead of the standard appointment procedures outlined in Section 16.06b.

Establishes that existing registers of eligible candidates remain valid until expiration or up to 2 years after the effective date of the 97th General Assembly's amendatory act.

Requires all original appointments to affected full-time fire departments be administered no less stringently than the standards in this Section, with this Section controlling in case of conflicts with other laws or ordinances.

Districts operating under court orders or consent decrees regarding appointments prior to the effective date are exempt from these requirements for the duration of the court order or consent decree.
