IL HB5711

Amends the Criminal Code of 2012 to add a new Class 1 felony offense for aggravated battery committed by persons at least 18 years old against enrolled school students under 18 years old on a school safe passage route.

Defines "safe passage route" as a public way designated and published online by municipal or county authorities as a route for school transit, effective between 6:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. on school days, during school activities, and within one hour before and after school activities.

Makes the offense applicable when the perpetrator or student is traveling to or from school on a designated safe passage route and causes bodily harm, disability, or disfigurement to the student.

Maintains existing aggravated battery classifications and penalties while adding this location-based offense to Section 12-3.05(c)(2) of the Criminal Code.
