Honors Alan J. Dixon's 43-year political career, including service as Illinois State Representative (1951-1963), Illinois State Senator (1963-1971), Illinois Treasurer (1971-1977), Illinois Secretary of State (1977-1981), and U.S. Senator (1980-1993)

Recognizes Dixon's work ethic, ability to foster bipartisan cooperation, advocacy for higher education and Illinois's community college system, and service as Chairman of the Defense Base Closure and Realignment Commission under President Bill Clinton

Dixon was born July 7, 1927 in Belleville, earned degrees from the University of Illinois and Washington University School of Law, served in the U.S. Navy Air Corps during World War II, and died July 6, 2014

Directs that a copy of the resolution be presented to Dixon's surviving spouse Joan "Jody" Fox Dixon and the Department of Natural Resources
