Public Act 95-596 (2007) directs the Governor to issue official notices for flags to be flown at half-staff upon the death of Illinois residents killed in action as Armed Forces members, law enforcement officers, or firefighters.

The Office of the Governor's website offers the Illinois Flag Honors e-News Summaries service allowing persons to subscribe and receive notifications when the Governor issues half-staff flag orders.

Not all persons and local government entities that display U.S., Illinois state, or military flags are covered by the Flag Display Act and may not be aware of half-staff flag orders.

The House urges local government entities and private citizens displaying flags to subscribe to the Illinois Flag Honors e-News Summaries service to honor fallen service members, law enforcement officers, and firefighters.

The House urges state and local government entities and private associations to provide website links to and include information about the Illinois Flag Honors e-News Summaries subscription service in their newsletters and publications.
