The 32nd Representative District in Chicago (including inner-city areas and southwest suburbs) ranks in the top 3 districts for violent crime incidents, with 33 murders in Englewood and 24 in Park Manor from January through September 22, 2013.

Over 600 registered voters in the district petitioned for the State of Illinois to deploy Illinois State Police to patrol the area bounded by Halsted Avenue to the west and Cottage Grove Avenue to the east, between 67th and 76th streets, for approximately one linear mile.

Illinois State Police already patrol Chicago expressways under a November 1985 Intergovernmental Cooperative Agreement, funded by State Lottery ticket sales at O'Hare and Midway airports ($4,939,990 and $696,776 respectively in Fiscal Year 2013) and traffic fines collected on the Dan Ryan Expressway.

The House urges Chicago and Illinois to enter into an Intergovernmental Cooperative Agreement to expand Illinois State Police patrols from the Dan Ryan Expressway inward to combat violent crime in the designated area.

Copies of the resolution are to be forwarded to the Director of State Police and the Mayor of Chicago.
