Former United States Representative Lane Evans passed away on November 5, 2014; he was born on August 4, 1951.

Served in the United States Marine Corps from 1969 to 1977 and represented Illinois's 17th Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives from 1982 to 2006.

As ranking member of the House Committee on Veterans' Affairs, advocated for Vietnam War veterans exposed to Agent Orange, increased funding for veteran assistance programs, and championed issues including post-traumatic stress disorder and traumatic brain injury.

Supported legislation to ban landmines, fought to keep the Rock Island Arsenal open, and voted against the North American Free Trade Agreement, the Gulf War, and the Iraq War.
