IL SB1005

Amends the Unified Code of Corrections to modify sentencing factors in Section 5-5-3.2, which governs aggravation factors and extended-term sentencing for felonies.

Adds new aggravating factor (28) allowing courts to impose harsher sentences when defendants commit assault, battery, robbery, or armed robbery against letter carriers or postal workers performing mail delivery duties.

Adds new extended-term sentencing factor (8) under subsection (c) for defendants convicted of attempted mob action, solicitation to commit mob action, or conspiracy to commit mob action where an electronic communication is used in the commission of the offense and the criminal objective is a violation of Section 25-1 (hate crimes).

Maintains and clarifies existing sentencing factors related to crimes against vulnerable populations (elderly, disabled, children), hate crimes, firearm offenses, gang-related crimes, and crimes in schools and day care centers.
