IL SB1188

Amends the Illinois Governmental Ethics Act to establish how partisanship is determined for gubernatorial appointees to offices requiring specific party affiliation or limiting appointees from a single party.

Uses voting history in the 3 general primary elections immediately preceding appointment to determine an appointee's partisanship for their term of office.

Classifies appointees as independent if they did not vote in those three primaries, did not request a partisan ballot, or requested ballots from 2 or more different political parties.

Prohibits disqualifying an appointed person from continuing in office during their term based on voting patterns in primary elections occurring after their appointment.

Applies to nominees appointed on or after the effective date of this amendatory act and covers all appointment types including acting and temporary appointments.
