IL SB1302

Amends the Unemployment Insurance Act by adding Section 220(G) to exclude temporary part-time public safety employees from unemployment insurance coverage if they earn less than $1,000 per calendar quarter.

Defines "temporary basis" to mean part-time workers who either do not earn wages for 8 of 12 weeks in each calendar quarter of the base period, or do not accrue more than 24 hours of service per week for 10 of 12 weeks in each calendar quarter.

Defines "public safety employee" to include police officers, firefighters, paramedics, emergency medical technicians, correctional officers, and volunteer emergency workers performing crime prevention, fire suppression, rescue, and medical treatment duties.

Excludes remuneration earned by these temporary public safety employees during a calendar quarter from counting toward unemployment insurance eligibility if such pay is less than $1,000.

Provision applies to service performed after December 31, 2013 by employees of governmental entities referenced in Section 211.1 of the Unemployment Insurance Act.
