IL SB1434

Amends Section 3-7-2a of the Unified Code of Corrections regarding Department of Corrections commissary pricing.

Makes a technical correction by removing a redundant word "the" in the statute text.

Maintains existing commissary pricing structure: up to 35% markup on tobacco products and up to 25% markup on non-tobacco products for inmate commissaries, with markups based on commissary employee wages and benefits as negotiated in collective bargaining agreements.

Requires commissary audits to be included in regular Department compliance audits conducted by the Auditor General in accordance with the Illinois State Auditing Act.

Prohibits the Department from contracting with private contractors or vendors to operate commissary services at existing facilities or any new facilities that open after the effective date.
