IL SB1533

Amends the Firearm Owners Identification Card Act to establish that regulation of firearm ownership and possession is exclusively a state power, not local authority.

Prohibits local governments and home rule units from requiring registration of firearms, ammunition, or related components as a condition of ownership or possession.

Prohibits local governments from requiring reporting of firearm or ammunition sales and transfers, and from maintaining firearms registries or lists.

Voids all existing local ordinances and resolutions that impose registration requirements on firearms and ammunition, effective immediately upon passage.

Strikes previous language that allowed municipalities to impose greater restrictions on firearms than state law without invalidation.
