Allows townships within coterminous municipalities in counties with 3+ million population and covering 7+ square miles to be discontinued by voter referendum or city council ordinance.

A referendum to discontinue township organization can be initiated by the city council or by petition signed by at least 10% of registered township voters, with signatures valid only if signed within 90 days of petition filing.

Upon voter approval of discontinuation, all township rights, powers, duties, assets, property, liabilities, and obligations transfer by operation of law to the coterminous municipality.

The coterminous municipality assumes all township officer duties including assessor, public health district board member, highway commissioner, and public aid administrator functions.

Township records are deposited with the municipal city clerk's office, and the municipality may close outstanding township business and dispose of township property for municipal benefit.
