IL SB1609

Expands the crime of threatening a public official to include human service providers employed by state agencies or contracted organizations under grants from the Departments of Human Services, Children and Family Services, Healthcare and Family Services, or Department on Aging.

Applies the same threat standards to human service providers as public officials, including threats of bodily harm, sexual assault, confinement, restraint, or property damage to the provider or their immediate family members.

Requires threats to social workers, caseworkers, investigators, and human service providers to contain specific facts indicative of a unique threat rather than generalized threats of harm.

Maintains penalties as Class 3 felony for first offense and Class 2 felony for second or subsequent offense.
