• Amends the Line of Duty Compensation Act to include self-inflicted injuries as qualifying deaths if a mental health professional establishes the injury resulted from the officer's active duty service.

• Expands the definition of "killed in the line of duty" to include law enforcement officers who receive injuries while traveling to or from employment, during meal breaks, or other breaks occurring during their on-duty period.

• Clarifies that injuries sustained while attempting to prevent crimes or apprehend suspects qualify as line-of-duty injuries regardless of whether the officer was on duty at the time.

• Applies expanded protections to law enforcement officers, civil defense workers, civil air patrol members, paramedics, firemen, and chaplains employed by the State or local governmental entities.

• Takes effect upon becoming law.
