SB1684 Summary

• Prohibits appointment or reappointment to any state board or commission for persons who are spouses, children, spouses of children, or civil union partners of state officials, effective upon passage of the 98th General Assembly.

• Prohibits appointment or reappointment as head of a state department for persons who are spouses, children, spouses of children, or civil union partners of state officials, effective upon passage of the 98th General Assembly.

• Defines "State official" according to the Lobbyist Registration Act and "party to a civil union" according to the Illinois Religious Freedom Protection and Civil Union Act for purposes of these eligibility restrictions.

• Applies restrictions to all department heads including Directors of Aging, Agriculture, Corrections, Revenue, and Secretaries of Human Services, Transportation, and other state departments.
