IL SB1842

Amends the Local Mass Transit District Act to establish procedures for discontinuing local mass transit districts when the Board of Trustees determines there is no longer public need for services.

Districts created under Section 3.1 may discontinue by passing an ordinance or resolution without requiring approval from participating municipalities and counties, with the effective date stated in the ordinance or left to the date of passage.

Remaining funds after payment of debts and settlement of obligations must be distributed pro rata based on area to treasurers of municipalities and counties within the district boundary.

Validates any ordinances or resolutions passed prior to the effective date of this amendment by districts created under Section 3.1 that intended to effect dissolution, confirming discontinuation as valid on the date specified or the date of passage.

Requires certified copies of discontinuation ordinances or resolutions be filed with the Secretary of State and County Clerk of each county within the district boundary.
