SB1845 Summary

• Extends the deadline for new admissions to alternative teacher certification programs from September 1, 2013 to September 1, 2014.

• Requires alternative certification candidates admitted on or before September 1, 2014 to complete their coursework before January 1, 2016.

• Extends the repeal date of both the Alternative Teacher Certification program (Section 21-5b) and the Alternative Route to Teacher Certification program (Section 21-5c) from January 1, 2016 to January 1, 2017.

• Allows persons with a bachelor's degree and five years of work experience in a related field to obtain provisional alternative teaching certificates valid for one year while completing the three-phase certification program.

• Successful completion of either alternative certification program satisfies all practice teaching and subject matter requirements for state teacher certification.
