School boards must consult with law enforcement and security experts during the design and planning stages of constructing new school buildings or major additions and remodeling of existing school buildings.

Requirement applies to Section 10-20.55 for general school districts and Section 34-18.48 for high school districts.

Consultation requirement applies only to buildings that students physically occupy, excluding out-buildings, maintenance buildings not affixed to existing structures, and concession stands.

Requirement applies only to construction, additions, or remodeling projects that meet the requirements of Section 10-20.21 (for school districts) or Section 34-21.3 (for high school districts) of the School Code.
