SB1935 Amendment Summary

• Expands firearm storage requirements to apply to any person prohibited from obtaining a Firearm Owner's Identification Card, not just minors under 14 years old.

• Requires firearms be secured by a locking device, locked container, or secure location to prevent access by prohibited persons or minors.

• First violation is a Class C misdemeanor with a minimum $1,000 fine; second or subsequent violations are Class A misdemeanors.

• Exceptions apply when a minor or prohibited person lawfully uses a firearm for self-defense or when access results from unlawful entry to the premises.

• Effective date is January 1, 2014.
