SB1945 Amendment Summary

• Amends Section 12-215 of the Illinois Vehicle Code to add a new category (4.5) authorizing occasionally-used rescue vehicles to display oscillating, rotating, or flashing lights if authorized by a licensed Emergency Medical Services (EMS) System.

• Requires operators of rescue vehicles under the new provision to complete an emergency vehicle operation training course approved by the Office of the State Fire Marshal.

• Restricts use of lights on these rescue vehicles to emergency calls for the sick or injured only.

• Modifies the manufacturer demonstration provisions to require "out of service" or "not an emergency vehicle" signage (at least 2 inches tall, one-half inch wide) on all sides of vehicles with mounted lights for demonstration purposes.

• Prohibits activation of demonstration lights while the vehicle is operated on a highway.
