IL SB1958

Amends Section 8-9-1 of the Illinois Municipal Code regarding public improvements in municipalities with less than 500,000 population.

Makes a technical correction by removing a duplicated word ("than") in the opening language of the section.

Applies to public works projects exceeding $20,000 that are not funded through special assessment or special taxation.

Specifies that such projects must either be contracted to the lowest responsible bidder after public bid advertising, or conducted using municipal day laborers and artisans if authorized by a two-thirds vote of aldermen or trustees.

Exempts contracts between municipalities and the federal government from these requirements.
