IL SB1970

Amends Section 17-5 of the Criminal Code of 2012 concerning deceptive collection practices.

Makes a technical correction to the language defining a collection agency as one governed by "the" Collection Agency Act (removes redundant "the").

Maintains existing prohibitions against deceptive collection practices including false impersonation of law enforcement, misrepresentation of business names, unauthorized charges, threats to credit ratings, and accepting payments known not to be owed.

Preserves penalty structure for deceptive collection practices as a Business Offense punishable by a fine not to exceed $3,000.
