SB2179 Summary

• Removes the prohibition on openly carrying a pistol or revolver by persons with a valid Firearm Owner's Identification Card (FOID) who are 21 years of age or older.

• Removes the prohibition on openly carrying pistols or revolvers on public streets, alleys, and public lands within city, village, or incorporated town limits for persons with a valid FOID card who are 21 years of age or older.

• Modifies aggravated unlawful use of weapons charges to eliminate open carry restrictions for uncased and loaded firearms when the person possesses a valid FOID card and is 21 years of age or older.

• Allows open carry of firearms subject to existing exceptions including on one's own land, in one's home, in one's fixed place of business, or as an invitee on another's property with permission.

• Takes effect immediately upon becoming law.
