Sex offenders must pay a $100 registration fee at initial registration and $100 at each annual renewal, with payment plans available for those unable to pay in full.

Indigent registrants unable to pay fees in installments may perform 100 hours of community service within 90 days instead, if available.

Of each $100 fee collected, $35 is retained by the registering agency, $5 goes to the Sex Offender Management Board Fund, $30 goes to the Department of State Police Sex Offender Registry, and $30 goes to the Attorney General's Sex Offender Awareness, Training, and Education Fund.

Failure to pay registration fees is a Class 4 felony, while other registration violations are Class 3 felonies (or Class 2 for repeat violations), with mandatory minimum 7-day jail sentences and $500 fines.

Out-of-state students and employees must register within 3 days of beginning school or employment in Illinois and provide employment/school information and residential address from their home state.
