SB2267 Summary

• Enhances criminal penalties for unlawful use of weapons, unlawful possession by felons, aggravated unlawful use of weapons, and unlawful possession of firearms by street gang members under the Criminal Code of 2012.

• Increases minimum sentences for certain weapon violations, including raising the minimum for felon in possession from 2 to 4 years and requiring minimum sentences of 5 years for second or subsequent violations.

• Requires circuit courts to transmit quarterly reports to local law enforcement agencies regarding dispositions of all cases involving violations of deadly weapons statutes.

• Limits sentence credits to a maximum of 4.5 days per month of imprisonment for prisoners convicted of specified weapon violations, instead of allowing standard sentence credit accumulation.

• Takes effect immediately upon becoming law.
