IL SB2274

Amends Section 3-2-5 of the Unified Code of Corrections to make a technical change regarding the Department of Corrections' administrative structure.

Replaces duplicative language concerning the appointment of a Director and Assistant Director of the Department of Corrections by the Governor under the Civil Administrative Code of Illinois.

Maintains existing provisions for the Department of Juvenile Justice to handle all persons under 17 years of age sentenced to imprisonment, with juveniles kept separate from adult offenders.

Requires the Department of Corrections to establish a gang intelligence unit supervised by the Director to gather information on inmate gang activities, monitor gang operations, and develop policies to deter gang activity.

Designates gang intelligence information as confidential and exempt from Freedom of Information Act requests, but allows sharing with other law enforcement agencies to assist with investigations and prosecutions of gang activity.
