IL SB2653

Deletes the prohibition on carrying concealed firearms into public gatherings or special events conducted on property open to the public that require a permit from local government.

Maintains existing prohibitions on carrying firearms in schools, courthouses, detention facilities, hospitals, public transportation, alcohol-serving establishments, universities, stadiums, libraries, airports, amusement parks, zoos, and museums.

Allows licensees to carry firearms in vehicles in parking areas of prohibited locations and to briefly handle firearms when storing or retrieving them from vehicles, provided the firearm is unloaded when exiting the vehicle.

Permits private property owners to prohibit concealed firearms by posting required signage, except for private residences.

Takes effect immediately upon becoming law.
