Railroad police force members may issue administrative citations under county or municipal ordinances.

Train conductors and boat captains may remove passengers for disorderly conduct or obscene language that annoys or vexes other passengers or employees, with removal occurring at the offense location or nearby public station or dock.

Conductors and captains may only request assistance from willing and able passengers or employees when removing an offending passenger.

Before removing a passenger, the conductor or captain must refund the passenger's fare minus the portion attributable to distance already traveled.

Boat captains (not limited to steamboats) may arrest passengers guilty of crimes or misdemeanors and bring them before a circuit court judge.
