IL SB2697

Amends the Unified Code of Corrections to add second degree murder to the list of offenses with restricted sentence credit provisions for crimes committed on or after the bill's effective date.

Persons convicted of second degree murder shall receive no more than 7.5 days of sentence credit for each month of imprisonment, matching the credit limitation for certain drug trafficking and narcotics-related offenses.

Second degree murder convictions are excluded from eligibility for good conduct sentence credit awards under the discretionary provisions in the statute.

Inmates convicted of second degree murder are also ineligible for additional sentence credit multipliers available for completing educational, vocational, substance abuse, or other rehabilitation programs.
